ArtCraft Entertainment’s Crowfall Cracks Kickstarter Top 20 Video Games, Announces Recruitment of Key Hire !


Highly anticipated MMO breaks into Kickstarter Top 20; Company announces hiring of former Eve Online executive, Valerie Massey

AUSTIN, Texas, March 18, 2015 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. announced today that Crowfall™, the highly-anticipated “Throne War Simulator” MMO, is now one of the 20 highest-funded video game projects ever on kickstarter.com. Additionally, the campaign is the most funded video game of the past 12 months, amassing more than $1.2 million from more than 12,500 backers with a week left in the campaign.

Co-founder and Creative Director J. Todd Coleman explains, “Kickstarter remains the unchallenged leader when it comes to crowdfunding for games. Crowfall’s success confirms that the right team, with the right vision, can still incite passion and gain significant momentum.”

On to the strength of this campaign, the company also announced today the hiring of well-known community developer Valerie “Pann” Massey, who formerly served as the senior director of public relations and communication at CCP Games (creators of the venerable EVE Online).

“Our vision is to create a game that feels like a blend between EVE Online and Game of Thrones. Valerie’s experience with EVE Online makes her the perfect person to help us build this community,” said ArtCraft’s Co-founder and President Gordon Walton. “Her experience and our game are a perfect fit.”

Massey will take the role of director of community management, acting as a customer advocate and key liaison to the burgeoning Crowfall community. “When it came to MMOs, I felt like the magician’s assistant who has seen the lady get sawed in half too many times,” explained Massey. “The magic was gone. But when I heard about the concept for Crowfall, I saw something unique on the horizon at last. I had to be a part of it.”

A new type of online experience, Crowfall is a “Massively Multiplayer Online Throne War Simulator.” Players take the role of kings, queens, mercenaries and assassins in a simulation of a feudal world that includes castle building, siege equipment and territorial conquest system.

Founded by two of the most experienced executives in the history of online gaming, ArtCraft Entertainment is the combined effort of J. Todd Coleman (director, Shadowbane, Wizard101, Pirate101) and Gordon Walton (executive producer, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: the Old Republic). The stated goal of ArtCraft Entertainment is to “push the design of Massively Multiplayer Online games in bold new directions.”

Camelot Unchained Surpasses $2 Million Crowdfunding Goal

City State Entertainment Co-Founder Mark Jacobs and private investors commit an additional $3 million

May 2, 2013 – City State Entertainment announces that its crowdfunding campaign for Camelot Unchained (working title) has reached its target of $2 million. The TriRealm™ RvR-focused MMORPG will now receive $3 million in additional funding, including $2 million from studio co-founder and online game industry pioneer Mark Jacobs. The process of ramping up to full development is already under way. Pledges are still being accepted via Kickstarter until May 2 at 11.56 am EDT, and through PayPal until further notice.

“The last 30 days have been an incredible journey,” said Mark Jacobs. “We believed there’s an audience for a highly focused game like ours, which has now been proven. What we didn’t expect was how our community would come together so quickly and avidly. Not only is our average pledge off the chart, our backers have been just as intensely supportive in other ways, from providing immense amounts of helpful feedback to translating information into four languages (German, French, Japanese and Korean), and more. Our entire team is grateful beyond words for the way they have inspired us with their fervent interest and amazing enthusiasm.”

During the campaign, the company stated its intention to create a proprietary engine that will be optimized for large-scale battles with hundreds of characters on-screen at one time. Led by co-founder Andrew Meggs, the programming team has made tremendous progress in a very short time. A recent technology demo consistently achieved 200 to 400 frames per second while showing 1,000 characters, each individually rendered at approximately 12,000 polygons without using level of detail, plus smoke and other particle effects.

City State also unveiled initial details about the innovative building system that will be a core element in Camelot Unchained. Employing a building block approach, it will offer unprecedented flexibility. Players will be able to craft a variety of both individual cells and larger segments called pre-fabs, which they may then assemble in nearly limitless ways to construct not only small houses, but also halls, manors, castles, walls, towers, other defensive structures, etc.

Legends of Dawn IS GREENLIT!

Zagreb, Croatia – 5th of March 2013.

Dreamatrix’s fantasy action RPG, Legends of Dawn, has been selected as one of many great titles to be included in the February 26, 2013, round of Greenlit games by Valve Software’s Steam.

It’s been a long road to this point for a small independent developer. The support that Legends of Dawn has received has been great. After the succesful Kickstarter campaign in January the fans and supporters continued to vote up on Steam’s Greenlight where it went from the bottom of the very long list of over 1000 titles to the chosen few within just 65 days http://store.steampowered.com/news/10029

The final steps are being taken to get Legends of Dawn to the public, which just boils down to finalizing the voice-overs and touch-ups at this point.

Feb. 5, 2013 – City State Entertainment revealed today that it will launch a Kickstarter campaign in March, 2013 to help fund the creation of Camelot Unchained (working title), a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The project is the latest from CSE co-founder Mark Jacobs. An online industry pioneer and founder of Mythic Entertainment, he came up with the concept for and led the team that created one of the genre’s very first international successes, the landmark Dark Age of Camelot ®, which launched in 2001, achieved immediate popularity and critical acclaim, won dozens of awards, and is still in operation.

The core concept for the new MMORPG focuses tightly on three key elements, RvR, housing and a true player-owned economy. The central conflict encompasses a trio of diverse, competing realms – Arthurian, Tuatha Dé Danann and Viking – each seeking to assert its dominance over an open and persistent world reflecting the universally familiar but greatly re-imagined Camelot and European mythos. All aspects of this RvR-focused MMORPG are tied into and support the three realms’ ongoing battle for superiority and control. The player housing and crafting systems will also be very significant components and both key closely into the RvR theme.

“We believe there’s a small yet viable audience of fans who are very keen to play this type of MMORPG,” stated Mark Jacobs. “However, tightly focused niche games don’t necessarily hold great appeal for traditional publishers who are looking toward the mass market. Project Eternity First Screenshot !

Project Eternity’s team of crazed environment artists have been working hard on developing our first environment for the game. Early on in the Kickstarter campaign, we told you that we wanted to make maps the Infinity Engine way. That is, we wanted to build 3D levels, render them out as 2D images, and then have our artists paint in beautiful details, highlights, and color-tweaks before they went into the game. Looking back at the levels some of us worked on for Icewind Dale, we were still thrilled with the quality that we could achieve with this approach. For Project Eternity, we’re using 10 years of improvements in rendering technology and hardware to get the job done, but we still love what we can do the “old-fashioned” way. We hope you share our enthusiasm.

Hey everyone, there’s exactly one more week left in the Kickstarter, and we are going to be kicking it up with bigger and better updates every day!

New Add-ons and Rewards

We were looking at the $140 tier and thought it needed something more, so we decided to throw a Project Eternity Mouse Pad into the Collector’s Edition. The mouse pad features the painting from Kiernan Yanner. You can also add-on additional mouse pads at any physical tier for $15.

New Stretch Goals for $2.7m and $2.8m

We are happy to announce two more classes for the 2.7m stretch goal. With your pledges we now have Barbarians and Ciphers as playable classes, and now we would like to add Paladins and Chanters to round out our class selection for Project Eternity, bringing the class total to 11.

Paladins are extremely devoted, often fanatical, soldiers who have pledged themselves to a chosen cause, combining the zeal of a priest with the ascetic discipline of a monk. They have founded many elite fighting forces, from the original Darcozzi Paladini, a two thousand year-old order of palace guards, to the fledgling Fellows of St. Waidwen Martyr, zealous defenders of the Godhammer pilgrim trail. Often found at the vanguard of many conflicts, paladins are natural leaders and have the ability to quickly assist their allies with targeted commands. A paladin’s commands can stave off impending death, overcome fatigue, or hasten the charge to close breached defenses. And though they are not always pledged to the service of a god or gods, paladins are so singularly focused on their chosen cause that their souls are continually creating a wellspring of spiritual energy from which they can blast groups of foes in their immediate vicinity. Despite their often stoic presence and explosive combat style, paladins work best alongside allies. When isolated, they can be vulnerable, especially against singular powerful foes.

Chanters can be found in almost any culture, but are most often seen in communities with a strong oral tradition. They are repositories of folk knowledge and common wisdom, tellers of tall tales and hallowed legends. Though chanters have a bit of minor talent in traditional arts of combat and soul-based magic, their true power lies in their chants. Chanters construct chants from individual iconic phrases and rhyming couplets they have memorized from hundreds of stories and poems, creating a chain of magical effects that plays out over time. While chanters do use the power of their souls to work their magic, chants are exhortations to the unconscious memory of wayward souls and the diffused spiritual energy of the world. That is, ambient spirits respond to the evocation of ancient, common story elements and play their part in reconstructing the chanter’s tales. While a chanter’s magic may seem modest compared to that of a wizard or a priest, chanters are able to recite their chants while occupied with other activities, making them extremely versatile.

It’s our pleasure to introduce our next stretch goal of George Ziets at $2.8m – with your help, we’ll be able to enlist the skills of George Ziets in shaping Project Eternity. For those not familiar with George’s work, he was the creative lead and core writer behind the acclaimed Mask of the Betrayer – the first expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. George leant his talents to many of Obsidian’s other games including Fallout: New Vegas.

George is gifted in designing lore, levels, and companions for role-playing games, and Baldur’s Gate 2 is one of his favorite titles. His impact can be felt in Mask of the Betrayer, and the character concepts, story, and his narrative decisions to take a disused section of the Forgotten Realms and use it as a backdrop to weave a fascinating story is testament to his design skills. We’ve given him the rundown of Project Eternity, and he’s eager to help shape the lore, design areas, and bring the characters in the world to life.

Legends of Aethereus Kickstarter in Final Stretch With First Two Stretch Goals For OUYA and VIP Room Achieved


14 Hours Left to Fund Windows/Linux/Mac Action RPG

GOTLAND, SWEDEN – July 21, 2012 – ThreeGates announced that is has reached its first two Kickstarter stretch goals above the $25K in funding the studio was looking to raise for Legends of Aethereus,its forthcoming action Role-Playing Game (RPG). The first two stretch goals include a special member’s only room where crafting materials and special items will be dropped at random intervals as an ongoing thank you to Kickstarter supporters. The studio will also be picking up an OUYA dev kit since the community has asked ThreeGates to explore a version for the recently announced console and the stretch goal to pick up the kit was met on Thursday night. “The final stretch goal is less than $3,900 away now,” said Don Geyer, CEO of ThreeGates. “Getting accomplished game designer Scott Foe onboard to craft a special quest line would be a really awesome addition to the game.”

At $35K, ThreeGates will sign on legendary game designer Scott Foe for a specially designed bonus quest line. Foe is known for his work on Phantasy Star Online and Reset Generation, as well as numerous other titles. He is believed to be one of the most creative designers making games today.

“Getting Foe on board is pretty epic,” Geyer continued. “This is something he would be doing to help us and give the community something really special. It’s an amazing opportunity.”

Legends of Aethereus is a high action RPG with up to four player co-op and a variety of PvP game types. Join forces in online multiplayer cooperative expeditions as the Inventor, Astrographer or Officer and venture into the uncharted wilderness of Aethereus seeking fame, glory and untold riches.
