PlayStation®App enables smartphones and tablets to interact with PlayStation®4 systems and offers smooth and easy access to PSNSM features.

Tokyo, October 25, 2013 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced that it will release PlayStation®App, a new application for mobile devices, on November 13, 2013 in North America, and on November 22, 2013 in Europe. PlayStation®App will be available free of charge.

Playstation®App can be downloaded onto various mobile devices, such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android™ based smartphones and tablets, from the App Store and Google Play*1. Once installed, these devices can be used as second screens in supported PlayStation®4 (PS4™) titles, and users can easily access PSNSM features such as Friend Lists and Trophies. Furthermore, users will be able to exchange messages with members of their Friends List, and browse through news and information on the official PlayStation® website. PlayStation®App comes with a variety of features that allow users to seamlessly access and enjoy the world of PlayStation®.

The following features are available on PlayStation®App:

  • Directly access various PSNSM features and information
    • Users can access their own profile screen.
    • Users can access/compare their own and friends’Trophy accomplishments.

The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.
  • Spectate other PS4 users’ gameplay
When users’ friends upload or begin live streaming their gameplay on PS4 systems, the friends’ activities are displayed on “What’s New” of the PlayStation®App screen. When users tap on this notification, they can boot pre-installed applications, such as browsers, to spectate the uploaded gameplay. Users can also post comments on gameplay screenshots, footage and live streams.
  • Purchase game content on PlayStation®Store
Users can purchase game content*2 while away from home and download it directly onto their PS4, PS3, and PS Vita*3 systems.
  • Use a mobile device as a simple remote to control the PS4 system
Once installed, users can use their PlayStation®App to control their PS4 system as long as both devices have access to the same Wi-Fi access point. Download the ‘Achievement Unlocked’ sound

I posted this some time ago, but when I moved my blog earlier this year, a few things got lost in the shuffle..namely the post that pointed to this file.  So back by popular demand…the sound that has been heard multiple millions of times around the world of as Xbox 360 Gamers run up their Gamerscore: The Achievement Unlocked sound. These audio files were created directly from the master file – so they don’t get any better than this.

Right click and choose ‘Save as’ (or something similar) to save this to your local computer. Grab the flavor that suits you the best (I have posted two versions of the same file.)

I know that you’ll use it for a ring tone, but what are some of the other creative ways do you plan to use this?

JailbreakMe 3.0 To Jailbreak All iOS Devices From iPhone 3GS To iPad 2 On iOS 4.2.1 To iOS 4.3.3

Comex – developer of JailbreakMe – popular browser-based jailbreak tool who is expected to release a new version of the tool to jailbreak iPad 2 has revealed that he has reduced the time it will take to jailbreak an iOS device by using a unionfs approach instead of using the stashing approach that has been used by jailbreak tools.
He has also revealed that he plans to use this approach for the iPad 2, thus indicating that iPad 2 users will have to wait for some more time for the eagerly awaited JailbreakMe for iPad 2.

Comex has provided the following information about the performance improvements:
If you don’t know, the stashing approach jailbreaks have been using for years– Cydia’s “Reorganizing Filesystem”– involves moving some large directories from the small / partition into the large /var partition, then creating symlinks from the original to the new location. This both ensures that any additional stuff put in those directories by packages will end up in the /var partition, and frees up space on the / partition for files created outside of those directories. However, the process has some issues, like taking forever to do when you jailbreak (I am a bit fanatical about speed), pretty much requiring the jailbreak to reboot the system to ensure there aren’t any running applications pointing to the old files (ditto about speed, I want a jailbreak to not even require a respring, as in star, but since star used stashing, some obscure things could cause issues before a reboot), and seriously confusing the sandbox code in the kernel (because each application has a sandbox with a list of allowed filenames, but after the symlink has moved files, the filenames no longer match), requiring that code to be patched (it needs to be patched anyway these days because tweaks have to run under the sandboxes of the applications they’re hooking, but depend on accessing various directories; but it still feels good to get rid of a kludge).

With unionfs (which was saurik’s idea originally), new files are created in the /var partition, and merged with files in the corresponding directories in the / partition, so no files need to be moved, no descriptors are invalidated, and I think the sandbox code won’t notice what happened. It also opens the door for upgrading the base operating system without destroying the jailbreak files (although maybe iOS 5 delta updates will already allow this? I haven’t looked at them yet).

I’ve wanted to do this since literally a year ago (that’s the date of the nullfs checkin, since I was dumb and thought I wanted that instead of unionfs), but I never got around to making it work properly.

So, I just hope that I can get rid of the crashes my meddling with unionfs’s code have introduced, and fix it for the iPad 2 (my dumped copies of iPad 2 kernels do not include symbols; I wrote a small BinDiff-like tool to copy over symbols from a kernel for another device, but it’s not perfect) and that there aren’t any performance issues.

Comex has also revealed that the new version of JailbreakMe will support iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 4.3.3 to one of his followers on Twitter and MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev team has indicated it will support all iOS devices with the following tweet:
@itaiyz97 see @comex’s feed tonight for his huge spoilers 🙂 All devices from iPhone3GS through iPad2, iOS 4.2.1 to 4.3.3
That’s good news as JailbreakMe 2.0 for iOS 4.0.x was the mother of all jailbreaking solutions as it allowed users to jailbreak their iOS device using mobile Safari. Based on MuscleNerd’s tweet, we’re assuming that JailbreakMe 3.0 will support iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM) and iPhone 4 (CDMA).

How To Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS On iOS 4.3.1 Using Redsn0w [Windows / Mac]

Jailbreak iPod Touch On iOS 4.2.1 Redsn0w

Redsn0w is one of the most popular jailbreaking tool developed by the iPhone Dev Team. iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 earlier today, which allows iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 (untethered).

In this guide, we will take you through the step by step procedure to jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.1 using Redsn0w.

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.

You can follow these step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPhone and if you don’t care about unlocking your iPhone:

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 (Mac and Windows) and save the application in a folder named “Redsn0w” on your desktop.

Step 2: You need to download iOS 4.3.1 firmware file:

iOS 4.3.1 firmware file for iPhone 4 users (iPhone3,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw)

iOS 4.3.1 firmware file for iPhone 3GS users (iPhone2,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw)

Step 3: Double click the Redsn0w zip file and extract the application to the Redsn0w folder.

Step 4: Connect your iPhone to the computer, which should automatically launch iTunes.

Skip steps 5 and 6, if your iPhone has already been upgraded to iOS 4.3.1.

Step 5: From the ‘Devices‘ section on the left pane of iTunes, select your iPhone device. Now, hold down the Shift button (Option button for Mac users) and click the ‘Restore‘ button.

Step 6: Navigate to the Redsn0w folder on the desktop and select the downloaded iOS 4.3.1 firmware file (iPhone 4 users: iPhone3,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw, iPhone 3GS users: iPhone2,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw). Click on the ‘Choose‘ button to let iTunes update your iPhone with the required firmware. You will be asked to setup your iPhone either from a previous backup or setup as a new iPhone, select the backup you want for your device (ideally should be the most recent one). Wait for iTunes to finish.

Step 7: Navigate back to the Redsn0w folder and launch the Redsn0w application. If you’re a Windows XP or Windows 7 user then try running Redsn0w as ‘Administrator’ (right-click on the Redsn0w exe and select ‘Run as an Administrator’).

Step 8: You will be asked to select the corresponding IPSW file. Click on the Browse button and select the iOS 4.3.1 firmware file (iPhone 4 users: iPhone3,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw, iPhone 3GS users: iPhone2,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw).

Step 9: Redsn0w will verify the firmware file and inform you if it has successfully identified it. Click on ‘Next‘ to proceed.

Step 10: Redsn0w will now start preparing the jailbreak data.

Step 11: You will now be prompted to select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and select ‘Next‘ to continue.

Step 12: You will now be prompted to switch OFF your iPhone and plug it to the computer. Follow the instructions and click on ‘Next‘ to move to the next screen:

Step 13: You will now need to put your iPhone into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:

(a) Hold the Power button on iPhone down for 3 seconds:

(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPhone and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds:

(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w identifies the device:

Step 14: Your iPhone should reboot now.

Step 15: Redsn0w will now begin uploading the new RAM disk and kernel. Please remember to release the Home button.

Step 16: You will now be notified once the jailbreaking process is complete. Click on the ‘Finish‘ button to exit the application.

Step 17: Your iPhone will reboot once again (which could take approximately 5 minutes). After it has rebooted, your iPhone should be successfully jailbroken. You should find Cydia jailbreak app on your iPhone’s home screen.
