NCSOFT® and ArenaNet™, developer of the acclaimed Guild Wars franchise, today announced that Blood and Madness, a Halloween-themed content update for Guild Wars 2, goes live today Tuesday, 15th October. This seasonal release is the second of three planned for players this month and includes fresh takes on some of the popular content that made last year’s Halloween updates so successful. It also continues ArenaNet’s pattern of delivering new content every two weeks, a pace unmatched by Western competitors.

In Blood and Madness, with Halloween fast approaching, Magister Tassi of the scholarly order Durmand Priory has detected some unusual energy readings that indicate another force is rising from the Underworld. This time, it’s Bloody Prince Edrick, son of Mad King Thorn, the insane tyrant who ruled Kryta centuries ago and now haunts Tyria as the powerful spirit of Halloween. Frightful new events and challenges await players as they confront the Bloody Prince and his growing, evil influence.

Blood and Madness also includes several new features and rewards.

New Events
· Mad Realm Doors: Players can trick-or-treat at haunted doors across Kryta. Beware: Knocking isn’t without risk.
· Mad King’s Labyrinth: Bloody Prince Edrick has taken over parts of the Mad King’s Labyrinth and is controlling the undead armies in the Mad King’s Realm. The Skeletal Lich, Grand High Viscount of Candy Corn, and the Labyrinthine Horror lie in wait.
· Mad King’s Clock Tower: Tyria’s most maddening jumping puzzle thrilled players during last year’s Halloween event and returns better than ever. Only the most skillful will navigate the insanity of the Mad King’s Clock Tower to reach the top in time.
· Lunatic Inquisition: Players can put their PvP skills to the test in the Mad King’s Labyrinth. Play as a villager trying to survive the night or a lunatic courtier intent on destruction. Survival tools and hidden secrets are waiting to be discovered.

New Features
· Combat Quality of Life Fixes: Improvements to combat include new ground targeting options, better targeting, and a new, optional way to display condition damage numbers.
· Trait and Skill Tooltips: Updates to the tooltip system for traits and skills mean traits will now display numbers, and skill tooltips will show how skills are affected by equipped traits.
· Balance Updates: Existing skills and traits have received a balance pass with a focus on improving support builds in all parts of the game for all professions.

New Rewards
· Sweet Rewards: Players completing the Blood and Madness meta achievement will receive a Mini Candy Corn Elemental, while following the storyline can earn players a Candy Corn node for their home instance.
· Candy Cornucopia: Players can trade Candy Corn for new Halloween items like a Mini Bloody Prince, a 20-slot Halloween Pail and special crafting items needed for Halloween weapons.
· Mask of the Night: Players can earn a Mask of the Night by proving their abilities to obey the maniacal monarch in rounds of Mad King Says.

Crafting the Halloween Exotics : Guildwars 2 Reddit

Here’s what we know so far. There are 3 craftable exotics that corespond to the temporary 4 hour skins you can buy in LA. They are Arachnophobia, The Crossing, and The Mad Moon.

Each of these items corresponds to a new craftable gift.
Arachnophobia = Gift of Spiders (Huntsman)
The Crossing = Gift of Souls (Artificer)
The Mad Moon = Gift of the Moon (Weaponsmith)

Each gift recipe needs to be learned by creating the recipe in the Mystic Forge. The recipe to create the recipe is:
250 Candy Corn
10 Crystalline Dust
40 Elonian Wine
100 Rare Halloween Materials (Nougat = Souls, Skulls = Moon, Teeth = Spiders)

Once you have created the recipe in the mystic forge you can craft it with a 400 level crafter.

Gift of the Moon:

  • Gift of Thorns (500 TA tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Corrupted Lodestones

Gift of Spiders:

  • Gift of Ascalon (500 AC tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Destroyer Lodestones

Gift of Souls:

  • Gift of Knowledge (500 CoE tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Crystal Lodestones

Beyond this I am unclear on. It hopefully is a simple recipe once you’ve crafted the unique gift because you’ve invested over 100g at that point.

Structured PvP October Update |

As we said in our last blog post, we’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg for sPvP. Custom Arenas are still being worked on and when they’re ready, we’ll show you more.  In the meantime, there are a number of new features coming to PvP.

Qualifying Points

Qualifying points (QPs) are gained in paid tournaments – each person on a winning team in an 8-team paid tournament gets 1 qualifying point.  QPs lead to rankings for larger tournaments, and allow you to measure yourself against other players.

Because you must have a full team in order to join a paid tournament and it takes tickets to enter, we know that the best teams will be playing paid tournaments. So while you do compete for better prizes than in free tournaments, the thing you’re really competing for are QPs.  Think you’re actually good at competitive GW2?  Hit the paid tournaments and prove it.  We’ll be adding more features that build off QPs, so once that’s ready, I’ll give everyone another update!

New UI

To make it easier to get into sPvP, we’ve made some User Interface (UI) adjustments.

Tournament Browser

The tournament browser UI now shows you the map rotation for a given tournament, as well as the rewards.

Quick-launch button update

You can now join and leave structured PvP by using the crossed swords button in the upper left of your screen. This opens a panel that shows your sPvP stats and info about your character.

The scoreboard now shows player ranks at the end of a game. It’s another way people can see how awesome you are at sPvP.

So that’s it for now!  We’re still working on other features in addition to custom arenas which will support sPvP, and once those are ready to go, we’ll do another update!

Halloween is almost here.
There’s a baleful moon on the rise and a chill in the air.
Ghosts bemoan their lonesome graves,
and bats in the belfry grow restless and crazed.
Prepare your costume; get ready for sweets.
It’s almost time to shout, “Trick or treat!”

Shadow of the Mad King

Release Overview

Halloween has a long history in Tyria, and in times past was always marked by the spirit of Mad King Thorn cavorting among the people unleashing his own brand of insanity. However, it’s been over 250 years since he was last seen, and for most people he is merely a figure of folklore. Despite this, rumors persist among the populace that something wicked this way comes.

Shadow of the Mad King is the first major game release for Guild Wars 2 and will go live on October 22. This new game update will include a number of new features for all of our players to enjoy, new content to explore and see, and a week-long Halloween event.

Release Highlights

Halloween is coming! Festivities are afoot, and Tyria will be transformed with decorations, new mini-games, new dynamic events, and more. Despite the celebrations there are those who dread the coming of Halloween and all that it may bring, for it is the time of year when barriers between the realms are weakest. Be prepared for an epic adventure in four acts starting October 22 and running until October 31.

Black Lion Trading Company

Never one to miss out on an opportunity, Evon Gnashblade has stocked all new items at the Black Lion Trading Company, including Halloween costumes and new transforms that will allow you to play Costume Brawl with fellow costumed players.

PvP Paid Tournaments

Paid tournaments will be available for competitive, five-person teams. These tournaments require tickets to enter and give better prizes than normal tournaments. Participating teams will earn qualifier points that will allow them to compete in future, larger tournaments. Tournament tickets can be earned from winning normal tournaments or purchased in the Gem Store.

Tyria Evolving

The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps.
