Deep Silver launches Christmas calendar for Dead Island soon !

Deep Silver invites all zombie fans to check out Dead Island’s exclusive Christmas Calendar for some great prizes, fresh materials and a special Xmas surprise

30th November 2011 – Hampshire, UK/… Deep Silver today announced a special Christmas surprise for all fans of Dead Island. On December 1st, 2011, a special Dead Island themed Christmas calendar will open its doors. Each day a new surprise will await the visitor – through a series of contests participants can explore the world of Dead Island, putting their knowledge of both the game and international zombie lore in general to the test.

Dead Island Bloodbath Arena DLC release date announced

Bloodbath Arena, the first downloadable content for zombie kill ’em up Dead Island, launches on 22nd November.

It goes live on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In Europe, the DLC launches on PS3 on Wednesday 23rd.

Bloodbath Arena is a wave-based mode that includes four different arenas for single-player and co-op play.

It adds a new weapon, the brain wave bomb, and implements a new leaderboard. Experience points and items looted in Bloodbath Arena can be carried into the campaign mode.

Dead Island gets PC patch 1.3

Following a Dead Island PC patch last week, which addressed issues such as random freezing and corrupt save games, patch 1.3 has been released for the game on Steam.

Gameplay improvements

  • Level cap raised to 60
  • New blueprints for weapon mods added
  • Infected damage reduced
  • Infected no longer interrupt player attacks
  • A series of improvements to subsequent playthroughs implemented: quest XP rewards adjusted, XP rewards for challenges adjusted, XP awarded for all quests completed in co-op
  • Purna’s ammo carrying capacity increased by 50%
  • Character state from a save game can now be loaded when using the Start from Chapter option
  • New balancing option added: enemy levels can now be adjusted independently for each co-op player
  • Players respawn with more health
  • Lock pick skill level required to open a lock is now clearly indicated
  • Improved rewards in weapon crates
  • All weapon crates now contain rewards

Fixes and interface improvements

  • Fix: players are no longer left without a weapon after dropping the equipped item and healing with a medkit.
  • Fix: equipped items no longer swap mysteriously after drinking an energy drink
  • Tweak: healing with medkits from inventory works better, makes smarter choices of medkits
  • Fix: loot from dead enemies is now always identical for all co-op players
  • Fix: Purna no longer finishes her Fury with fists equipped
  • Fix: map tracking after death
  • Fix: zone info in the quarantine zone (City of Moresby)
  • Tweak: respawn point selection is now smarter

General

  • Improved stability and network performance in co-op
  • V-sync option added
  • Quest and reward fixes implemented

News: Dead Island gets PC patch 1.3

Dead Island retains UK number one for second week

Techland’s Dead Island has maintained its leadership of the UK’s sales chart, with the only new entry this week coming from Sony’s God of War HD Collection Volume II at 35th.

An otherwise relatively static chart sees Resistance 3 trade places with Driver to take third, depsite being outsold in the PS3 only chart by Dead Island – which increased its PS3 sales from 29 per cent of the total to 47 per cent. Dead Island has now sold more in two weeks at market than any other Deep Silver game has in its entire lifetime.

Space Marine retains second place despite a drop in sales of 52 per cent. The only top ten titles to see sales figures rise are the two LEGO titles, Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter.

I should have been playing more Gears of War 3 Friday night. I had an early copy. But I tried Driver: San Francisco.

I should have been playing Gears of War 3 most of Saturday afternoon, but I felt the irrepressible urge to do something else: play more Driver: San Francisco.

I got some Gears in yesterday, but I was late to work this morning. My excuse? I was finishing the storyline campaign of Driver: San Francisco.

I never played a Driver before. I’m not even much of a racing game fan. Those are no hurdles for a fantastic game like this. Let me tell you about my favorite surprise game (so far) of 2011, the one I didn’t think could be so much fun… my own personal Dead Island, Driver: San Francisco.

It feels like nothing else

My old writing buddy N’Gai Croal accuses me of having an “innovation bias.” Well, yeah. I’ve been playing games for a couple of decades. If a new one can surprise me—if it can empower me to do something I don’t feel like I’ve done before—I’m impressed.

Driver: SF has me doing something I haven’t done in games before. Specifically: while racing through a virtual San Francisco in at Aston Martin at 150 miles per hour, in pursuit of a criminal getaway car 10 yards ahead of me, I can tap a button and suddenly be watching this chase from the clouds above. I may then spot an SUV driving in the opposite direction, tag it with a tap of a controller button, suddenly be driving behind the wheel of that SUV…. then take this new vehicle, cross the median and smash it headlong into that criminal getaway car as my original car whizzes by behind it on some sort of ghostly cruise control.

Deep Silver’s new zombie IP tops the charts in North America, UK and other European territories
