Deep in the frozen wastes of Whitevale, an ancient Eldan terraformer has lain dormant for millennia. Abandoned by its creators for reasons unknown, it was first discovered by Exile settlers colonizing the region, and soon scientists were dispatched to the area in order to unlock its secrets. Anticipating little opposition, the troops assigned to guard them established routine defenses near the ancient Eldan device.
The Dominion’s full-scale assault took them all by surprise. Seeing the terraformer as a strategic asset, the empire mounted a brutal offensive, and within hours the entire valley shuddered with the unrelenting clamor of artillery and blaster-fire. Despite fighting bravely to defend their territory, the Exile forces were hopelessly outnumbered and suffered heavy casualties. Certain of imminent defeat, their commander made a terrible choice. Refusing to allow the machine to fall into enemy hands, and with Dominion forces converging from all sides, he deliberately overloaded the terraformer.
The results were instant and catastrophic. In moments, the device had blasted a massive crater into the snowy plain, transforming the surrounding tundra into a wasteland of warped flora and puddles of ooze. Coruscating energies unleashed from the cataclysm mutated soldiers from both sides into twisted, ravening monstrosities. Even worse, hordes of parasitic squirg spewed forth from the ground, feeding on the brainwaves of their victims and turning them into mindless zombies.
With conditions growing more extreme by the hour, the maniacal Dominion inventor Mondo Zax and the enigmatic Exile alchemist Victor Lazarin have been summoned to the site – each hoping to end the emerging squirg apocalypse before it spreads to the rest of the planet. And unless reinforcements arrive to aid them, their efforts may already be too late.
