Skyrim 360 installed texture glitch being fixed

Bethesda have revealed that it is working on a patch to fix a glitch related to low-details textures on the Xbox 360 version of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

If you install the game to your 360 hard drive, an error is triggered in which the game is unable to load up high-detail textures, leaving you blurry visuals.

Over at Bethesda’s official forums, the developers have tried to explain the bug and how it relates to the features of the 360′s hard drive caching.

Skyrim uses a lot of dynamic streaming systems, including textures. We’ve seen a few reports of certain textures temporarily scaling down on the Xbox 360, and not scaling back up. We have verified that this issue does not occur when playing off the disk and when the game is fully cached (not installed). Skyrim makes heavy use of the Xbox 360 caching system, and caches over the normal course of play while in menus or interiors. This cache can be wiped when other games are played or when the user manually removes it. We’re working on a solution in the next title update for those who have installed the game.

The simple fix at the moment is to delete the game’s install file from your Hard Drive until the title update is released.

Few role-playing franchises can claim a pedigree quite as extensive as that of The Elder Scrolls. Spanning nearly 20 years, the series has seen multiple Game of the Year awards, and with good reason. Each installment builds upon the last, creating a vast open-world experience unlike any other. The series’ hallmark has been the ability to lose yourself within the lore and landscape for endless hours. Having successfully completed nearly 70 hours of gameplay, I am nowhere near finished with this game, so we present a mid-way point review for your enjoyment. Please look for our Skyrim Notes tomorrow, which will include more details on skills, crafting, and other minutia that didn’t quite fit here. If you’re a fellow ES nut and just want to Cut to the Chase, feel free to do so.

Building upon the rich, established lore, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim transports players to the frozen northern lands of Tamriel. Set two hundred years after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the world of Tamriel is in a period of unrest, and events that could change the course of the world are unfolding in Skyrim. The game begins with the familiar intro-by-way-of-dungeon, that allows your to create your character and get a feel for what is going on in the world. It appears Skyrim is on the cusp of civil war as the Nordic Stormcloaks seek to remove the Imperial forces from their land. Of course, the appearance of dragons — long thought extinct in Tamriel — has raised the stakes.
