I remember when the original Dead Rising was revealed for the Xbox 360 and was amazed with how many zombies Capcom was able to show on the screen at once (which I think was a few dozen or more, which was unheard of at the time). Turns out it was a hit, was more fun than it should have been to dismember zombies, and had a ton of black humor within as well. Dead Rising 2 raised the bar even further, so naturally when Dead Rising 3 was announced (and as an Xbox One exclusive), I knew that they were going to blow it out of the water given the power of the new hardware. Turns out Capcom Vancouver has delivered, as the technical increases alone have made the Dead Rising world not only seem more believable, but it actually feels as if you’re finally in a true zombie apocalypse where you want to avoid the hordes of zombies, for fear of being overrun.
Frank and Chuck from the first two games have been replaced with a new protagonist, Nick Ramos, whom is seemingly an average mechanic that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when this newest outbreak started. Dead Rising 3 takes place a decade after the events with chuck in Fortune City and this time is set in the fictional setting of Los Perdidos California (obviously a take on Los Angeles). Where Fortune City was bright and lit, Los Perdidos is very grim, bleak, and run down after the massive outbreak.
Nick will meet new people along his journey, sometimes saving them, other times being helped. They must escape the city within a few days before an impending missile strike will wipe out the city and any organic life left within its borders. Just like the previous games, you have that impending doom countdown timer that you’re always on watch for, though there’s no need to worry about rushing through the game this time if you choose (more on that shortly).
I would like to say Microsoft has lost their minds and are a very unfriendly consumer company now ! Why you ask ? I will tell you why !
1) I chatted live with Xbox Live account support team today about my Xbox Live Family Gold Plan that is no more now. I asked them why did you charge me $99 then ? They told me this would be the last time and we are giving you three month’s free. I was like cool ! Here is where the very bad part starts, when it ends all your accounts on Xbox Live Family Gold turn into single Gold accounts. If you have four accounts on your Xbox Live Family Gold account, I was told each account will be bill $59.99 !!! I was like WTF !!! That equals $239.96 !!!!! They should drop dead thinking they can charge that !!! I canceled auto renew .
PlayStation Plus is $49.99 a year, every one in your house hold can piggy back that account . They all can have a PSN gamer name. What makes PlayStation Plus a greater deal is if you had pre-order bonus’s and DLC every one under the main account gets everything you own too ! HALLELUJAH !!!
2) RYSE: Son of Rome you pay $59.99 for the game . Microsoft has the balls to have micro-transactions for the CO-OP part of the game ! That would be OK if it was a Free to Play game, but you have to buy the game ! Then they want to give you the shaft for being loyal to them ! I say F$%K YOU !
3) XBOX ONE UI/OS runs so bad it is laughable . Micheal Jackson should come back from his grave to JUST BEAT IT !
I could go on, but I know you all get my point ! Save your money and wait before you move to next gen with Micro-shaft. See if they will start giving back and not taking so much to own a XBOX ONE.
A Destiny beta is scheduled to begin in “early 2014″ and Bungie has confirmed it will be available first on PS3 and PS4.
Here’s all the new information:
The core experience has that similar Halo-esque “tight loop” of battling groups of varied enemies
Characters level up along a branching upgrade tree
The player character’s appearance, gear and vehicles can be personalised
Bungie doesn’t call it an “MMO” since it’s a loaded term, it says Destiny is difficult to describe, but people that like MMOs will enjoy it
Humanity is guarding the last safe city on Earth against the enemy of the Traveler, who appeared generations ago and bestowed technology and mystical powers on humans to prep them for expansion into the solar system
Locations in Destiny include planets, moons, asteroids and other features of the solar system, and are open for exploration
The game is very much about the places players get to go and see
Technical director Chris Bucher says it’s about finding out what happened on the Moon, interacting with alien factions, seeing what they’re up to
Story has a conclusion
Bungie is hoping to keep offering new locations, storylines and other content to keep players coming back
There’s lots of co-op and competitive content outside of the main story
Characters and progression
Destiny is attempting to give players choice and a “flexible suite of character creation tools and upgrades” to build and rebuild their characters
Multiple characters can be created and assigned in slots to encourage players to adopt numerous roles
Guardians races are mostly a cosmetic choice and early character creation offers basic choices such as gender, face customisation, hair styles and tattoos
Humans are survivors of the Collapse trying to rebuild civilization
The Awoken also survived the Collapse but have been deeply affected and are described as having an “aloof” personality.
The exo are self-aware machines built during the golden-age of humanity, but have no memory after their reboot; they draw on familiar sci-fi archetypes.
Class choice is important as each has “a strongly defined role”. In MMO speak all characters are damage-per-second characters, but can solve different situations differently. Bungie calls it “more of an emotional archetype”
While class choice dictates the style of abilities that characters can unlock, Focus determine the ability itself
A ‘Focus’ is described as a sub-class, and the main way characters level and improve
Focus goes from level one to 20 with abilities, passive bonuses, grenades and more unlocking along the way
Focus let’s players “take the Traveler’s light and turn it into effects in the world… [it] defines how you’re going to be playing the game right now, much more so than your class”
Each upgrade tree is “distinct” with each tier offering new and different things ranging from proximity and homing grenades to upgrades that alter movement with teleports and double-jumps. Another tier may have changes for melee or upgrades for a super ability
Focus can be swapped out at will, much like picking a new weapon. Players can pick a different Focus profile to change the way the character plays without having to throw the character away and start from scratch, as in most MMOs.
Warlocks draw on the mysterious power of the Traveler for spells to supplement their gun-shooting
Classes also have one piece of unique gear, for Warlocks this is robes.
Warlocks star with a focus called “Circle of Night”, it offers them good damage potential but less protection. The Focus’ super ability is called the Nova Bomb, and can wipe out large groups of enemies from a distance. But another focus, ‘Hear of Fusion’, can also be built-up if the player wants to play a support role
Titans are heavily armoured and space marine-like. They’re suited to charging in and taking damage and their Focus is designed to make them deadly at close-quarters. The ‘Fist of Havoc’ super ability can be used to create shockwaves and, later on, can be imbued with electrical charges
Hunters are a middle ground, they are bounty hunters that use pistols and are suited to stalking enemies. They start with the gunslinger Focus that lets them do big damage to single targets, but their super is a special weapon capable of one-hit-kills
Players will need to think about how Focus and their gear work together, since some items carry their own bonuses and abilities
An accompanying floating AI companion can be used as a flashlight
A personal vehicle likened to a speeder from Star Wars can be customised and used to move between locations in the open-world. It cannot, however, be used in combat.
Players also have a unique personal spaceship that is used to warp between planets. It can be seen floating in orbit along with those belonging to other players before co-op. There’s an element of showing off with a spaceship’s design
The Fallen: Vicious space pirates made up of once noble species. They’ve fallen from grace and wear distinct sigils to represent their allegiances. They’re arachnid-like in build, with four arms. They have mechanical vehicles inspired by Japanese mechs. Dregs are the lowest of the fallen, so they’ve had two of their arms chopped off. Vandals wield swords and guns and charge into battle. Captains are strategists coordinating battles; they have energy shields and are well-armoured. Shanks are mechanical drones that are essentially hovering turrets.
The Cabal: A corrupt “industrial, militaristic empire” that is imposing in everything from physical stature to their “unwavering resolve”. Legionnaires dive into battle, while Centurions are mobile thanks to jump jets that launch them across battlefields. Gladiators are very big and strong, often shooting Gatling guns. Psions, meanwhile, use their mind powers to pilot ships
Vex: A familiar science fiction machine race that arrives in the player’s time and space via warp gates. They are mostly machine, but show signs of organic elements. They shrug off headshots, but are staggered by damage to their abdomen, where their power cores are housed. Vex Goblins swarm enemies, while Minotaurs are larger and potentially more damaging. Hydras are robotic centipedes that float around the air and attack, while Harpies move in and out of battles
The Hive are an ancient race kept alive on “tomb-like sarcophagus ships”. Thralls attack in a mob-like formation to pester the enemy while Troopers do the big damage. They are joined by Knights with giant cleavers, Wizards flying overhead and blasting Darkness-fuelled spells. Finally, the Orge is massive and enjoys stepping on things
Old Russia: Here players can explore the ruins of the Cosmodrome, a real location in Kazakhstan that serves as a launch site for the Russian space program. The Cosmodrome was humanity’s bridge to outer space; it’s now home to colony ships forgotten in the wake of its collapse
Venus: Once a scientific research settlement for humanity, it has now become engulfed in a jungle and a sulphuric storm rages. The buildings are being eroded away by the ocean but at its centre is the Vex citadel, a tower with an unknown purpose.
Mars: Formerly a thriving metropolis, it is now buried under a sand, with only the peaks of skyscrapers visible. It’s home to the Cabal, who are clashing with the Vex.
The Tower: Home for the guardians, described as “Earth’s Camelot”. This is where players will be able to purchase items from vendors, turn in quest items, and interact with other players. It also has “class-focused areas” for Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters
Earth’s Moon: Infested by the Hive, the moon’s surface has splintered and spread around space. It once housed a human colony, but much of it has been buried in lunar soil.
Co-op and competitive
There is a defined story in Destiny, but there are plenty of side-quests that can be tackled without other players
Bungie has implemented a system that does matchmaking in the background to make it easy to get in and out of solo/co-op play. It says “the whole game is matchmade, in one sense… we have that technology running all the time invisibly”
All players are together in one world, instead of spread out across different servers like MMOs
It links together small groups based on the locations they’re in and the times
Some areas are designed so that three players can go there and play through without being interrupted by other groups, while others are big public areas where the difficulty is scaled to match the amount of players
In competitive game modes downed players can be revived before they respawn
Guardians start without access to heavy ammo and pick-ups are dropped in occasionally to encourage collisions
Maps are quite vertical and players have lots of movement options to help them get around
Environments shift and change
Halo players will feel at home with Destiny’s shooting
Left trigger is always ironsight
Right bumper is melee, but the type of melee attacks differ depending on the player’s chosen Focus
Left stick click starts a sprint
Y/Triangle swaps weapons between primary and secondary, but holding the button brings out a heavy weapon
Left bumper throws grenade
A/X jumps and can be double tapped to activate the movement tied to a Focus ability
Both bumpers held down will wind-up a super which, depending on your character, can be a high-damaging attack, a support action such as reviving/buffing/healing, or something else entirely
Back in June at E3 2013 the world watched as the debacle unfolded for the presentation of Crimson Dragon. Those who rallied behind the classic Panzer Dragoon series were greeted with a glimmer of hope that a successor would be flying in on the next generation console; and bring forth some amazing rail based shooting aspects combined with stellar graphics, sound, and controls. Priced at $19.99 Crimson Dragon is far from a retail title, yet still provides a wealth of content, even if some of that content isn’t the greatest. Brace yourself as we ride in our review of Crimson Dragon.
Humanity stands upon the edge of a knife as you enter the infamous Icarus Division on the planet Draco. Over the years a virus infestation has taken place called the Crimsonscale and it has infected every living being on the planet, including the dragons themselves. Your mission is to navigate throughout the various levels ahead and, like Darth Sidious said, “wipe them out. All of them.” Killing everything on the screen is pretty much the summary of the entire story and while parts of it are entertaining, you will find that the story itself is very weak and often detracts from the game’s overall quality. Originally Crimson Dragon was filled with potential to produce a storyline that enveloped the gamers as they took to the skies in their beasts, however after playing it, you will come to be annoyed that some parts of the story you cannot skip. It would actually be more entertaining to just do level select, go for rankings or medals and press on, instead of trudging through a lackluster story. It’s unfortunate that right out of the gate Crimson Dragon takes a hit, but don’t expect your game to get high marks for story content if you don’t make the effort to write one.
Throughout the history of mankind there have only been a few select moments that have altered its future and the birth of automotive transportation is one such moment. Freedom was just a turn of the key away, and only our imaginations became our limitations. The sensation of the road beneath your tires with a ribbon of black asphalt stretched out before your eyes is a feeling unlike any other, and in Forza 5 we find the greatest tribute to one of the great liberators in the history of mankind, the car. Turn 10 has been producing Forza Motorsport games since the years of the original Xbox, and with every release their goal is to pay homage by delivering the best driving experience you can find anywhere in the digital age; and they have succeeded in a way that is so significant that to accurately measure it would require you to almost compare it to other great monumental achievements in mankind. If ever there was a bar to rise, Turn 10 strapped it to the back of a Bugatti Veyron and sent it 250 miles an hour, straight into orbit while on fire. Chill the blood in your veins and start your engines because it’s time to launch into the best driving game ever available on any console, Forza 5.
Starting out Forza 5 will treat you to an opening sequence by Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, and after that the game takes you straight into racing behind the wheel of a McLaren P1. This is Forza’s way of introducing you to the world of motorsport and the physics that coincide with its existence. You will then be able to choose a car for the upcoming league event you will be participating in. After that you are off on your way through your first series of events that will help familiarize yourself with the courses, the physics of driving itself, and such features like replay and more. Before the races begin you have the option to select different driver assists and decide if you want them on or off, also you have the ability to choose your difficulty of competition. The other racers you will find in Forza are not computer AI controlled vehicles, but actual human drivers via their Drivatar.
The bottom line is the XBOX ONE team was not ready to release a new system this year, until Sony dropped the BOMB on them with the#4ThePlayersHardcore Gaming System PS 4 ! I should have waited to buy my XBOX ONE the UI/OS has more bugs init , than cockroaches living in old apartment buildings. I’m loving the PS 4 right now. It’s not a greedy suck every dime from you gaming machine, like the get nothing in return XBOX ONE !
It’s that time of year again where parents, kids, and those nutty gamer collector types are staking the local department stores for their Christmas toy fix. Two years ago Activision and Toys for Bob released an industry revolution called Skylanders Sypro’s Adventure. It was based on the Sypro franchise, but came with a twist; the toys! The game and toys turned out to be a huge success story, selling over 500 million dollars in retail sales, and it was crowned the number one toy that holiday season (2011) by several media outlets, including us!
This year Activision has decided to hire the services of the notorious developer, Vicarious Visions. This studio is well known for titles such as the Transformers series, a few Tony Hawk games, Guitar Hero series, and believe it or not, Skyanders, though primarily for iOS and the 3DS! So, right off the bat we’re were left in good hand with this experienced developer. I’d like to believe that Activision is maybe doing the Call of Duty thing, where one developer alternates with each other every other year, but that remains to be seen.
As you first load up the game, and if you have the previous, bulkier “Giants” portal plugged in, it will quickly ask you to replace it with the newer shorter version. I guess there is new stuff in that there portal and I suppose it’s to accommodate the new magnetized Swap Force Skylanders. However, every single Skylander will work on the new portal, even Trigger Happy and Gill Grunt from the vanilla days so it’s all good.
The menu system looks awesome, the graphics team that put this one together did an awesome job and everything is well placed and easy to find. As I navigate forward, the first thing I noticed was that there were only three save slots, though I have no idea why they’ve scaled this back, it’s only hard disk/cloud space after all. Strange change overall.
When we were shown this title at E3 2013, we honestly thought to ourselves…”What a weak title to launch a console with! NEXT!” — Hell, we even wrote a letter to a Microsoft executive telling him the same thing. Well my friends, there comes a time in every man’s life when he must admit he was wrong. We were wrong about Ryse. We’re positive that most of you thought the exact same thing as we did because the E3 showing of this game was terrible. Turns out they needed to show us more gameplay and less cinematics. Who knew it was simple as that.
Ryse: Son of Rome is probably one of the strongest launch titles for the Xbox One. One, it’s the only first party AAA title that is a unique and untested franchise. Basically a huge gamble for Microsoft. This was a bold move for them, especially with a brand new console. With the folks at Crytek being right there holding their game designing hand every step of the way, it was sink or swim. It also doesn’t hurt that they have an amazing graphics engine either. They’ve really bet on a good horse here. Sort of.
The best way to describe this game is that it’s a mix of Prince of Persia and Batman’s hand to hand combat system, mixed in with a bit of the linear and gameplay feel of Gears of War. All set within a beautiful Roman era historical wrapper. Generally speaking, linear games are not a new phenomenon. But, games like Gears and Splinter Cell are perfect examples of linear single player campaigns titles that work. Basically if you’ve watched Spartacus Blood and Sand series you’ll love Ryse.
If you have to make a choice on which new gaming system to buy for Christmas BUY a PlayStation 4 $100 cheaper and it is ready to PLAY GAMES out of the box.
XBOX ONE FOR 2013,DO NOT BUY IT ! Wait for March when Titanfall comes out first.
XBOX ONE dashboard is bullshit carp, unfinished beta UI . Getting any where on that system to play games will be a part time job for the average Joe ! Kinect voice commands are piss poor to use. After playing a PlayStation 4 , Xbox One‘s whole make up is very poor and over barring to some one who just wants to be a NEXT gen gamer. Microsoft has their head’s up their asses so they can see shit clearly and nothing about the NEXT gen gamer.
In the end I feel like Microsoft is just trying to shaft people and nickle and dime them to death. XBOX LIVE GOLD is laughable when it is compared to PlayStation Plus. When I logged on my PlayStation 4, I was able to get two brand new PlayStation 4 games for free Contrast & RESOGUN ! XBOX fanboy’s don’t tell me you only get to keep them if you have PlayStation Plus, because you have to have PlayStation Plus for the PlayStation 4 to play online just like XBOX GOLD. Don’t forget all the PlayStation 3 & PS Vita games you get for free monthly too .
Final score 6.5
Cons * Dashboard feels like beta * Live TV does no work well * Very hard to set up for the average Joe with a receiver * No full free games * Nothing for being a Xbox Gold member * Xbox One does not know what it wants to do, be a gamer or entertainer
Pros * It was easy to move your Gamer Tag * 7.1 surround sound * Titanfall in March
It sure is good that Microsoft’s Xbox One controller doesn’t have a “Share” button dedicated to pushing live broadcasts of gameplay to the internet, because that functionality is being delayed beyond the console’s November 22nd launch date. Microsoft confirmed as much this morning in a cursory footnote in a larger piece about the Twitch.tv app, which reads, “We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community.” It sounds like, as it stands now, broadcasting via Xbox One isn’t up to snuff for release.
Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. has announced the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 editions of its stunning METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will boast a Sony platform exclusive mission that celebrates the series’ heritage across the PlayStation® range.
Series creator Hideo Kojima has celebrated the heritage of the acclaimed METAL GEAR SOLID franchise across numerous Sony gaming systems, by creating a bespoke mission for the newest addition to the PlayStation® family.
Users will be able to access a unique ‘MGS1 Deja-Vu’ mission that references key events from the original PSOne® classic, METAL GEAR SOLID. The exclusive mission tasks the user with reproducing famous scenes from the original game. The mission will be available to both digital and boxed users, and will ultimately let players assume the appearance of the classic ‘Solid Snake’ within the GROUND ZEROES universe once proper conditions are met.
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES is scheduled to be released in Spring 2014, and acts as a prequel to events in METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. The game introduces a new open-world environment to the series, along with time of day, a variety of weather conditions, extensive AI advances, and a gripping new storyline that will both stun and amaze. METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will be available in retail stores nationwide on current generation systems for £29.99 or via download for £19.99. Digital versions for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One can be downloaded for £29.99.
