Here’s what we know so far. There are 3 craftable exotics that corespond to the temporary 4 hour skins you can buy in LA. They are Arachnophobia, The Crossing, and The Mad Moon.

Each of these items corresponds to a new craftable gift.
Arachnophobia = Gift of Spiders (Huntsman)
The Crossing = Gift of Souls (Artificer)
The Mad Moon = Gift of the Moon (Weaponsmith)

Each gift recipe needs to be learned by creating the recipe in the Mystic Forge. The recipe to create the recipe is:
250 Candy Corn
10 Crystalline Dust
40 Elonian Wine
100 Rare Halloween Materials (Nougat = Souls, Skulls = Moon, Teeth = Spiders)

Once you have created the recipe in the mystic forge you can craft it with a 400 level crafter.

Gift of the Moon:

  • Gift of Thorns (500 TA tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Corrupted Lodestones

Gift of Spiders:

  • Gift of Ascalon (500 AC tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Destroyer Lodestones

Gift of Souls:

  • Gift of Knowledge (500 CoE tokens)
  • 250 Orichalcum Ingots
  • 20 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • 100 Crystal Lodestones

Beyond this I am unclear on. It hopefully is a simple recipe once you’ve crafted the unique gift because you’ve invested over 100g at that point.

Structured PvP October Update | GuildWars2.com

As we said in our last blog post, we’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg for sPvP. Custom Arenas are still being worked on and when they’re ready, we’ll show you more.  In the meantime, there are a number of new features coming to PvP.

Qualifying Points

Qualifying points (QPs) are gained in paid tournaments – each person on a winning team in an 8-team paid tournament gets 1 qualifying point.  QPs lead to rankings for larger tournaments, and allow you to measure yourself against other players.

Because you must have a full team in order to join a paid tournament and it takes tickets to enter, we know that the best teams will be playing paid tournaments. So while you do compete for better prizes than in free tournaments, the thing you’re really competing for are QPs.  Think you’re actually good at competitive GW2?  Hit the paid tournaments and prove it.  We’ll be adding more features that build off QPs, so once that’s ready, I’ll give everyone another update!

New UI

To make it easier to get into sPvP, we’ve made some User Interface (UI) adjustments.

Tournament Browser

The tournament browser UI now shows you the map rotation for a given tournament, as well as the rewards.

Quick-launch button update

You can now join and leave structured PvP by using the crossed swords button in the upper left of your screen. This opens a panel that shows your sPvP stats and info about your character.

Scoreboard

The scoreboard now shows player ranks at the end of a game. It’s another way people can see how awesome you are at sPvP.

So that’s it for now!  We’re still working on other features in addition to custom arenas which will support sPvP, and once those are ready to go, we’ll do another update!

Coming Soon

Halloween is almost here.
There’s a baleful moon on the rise and a chill in the air.
Ghosts bemoan their lonesome graves,
and bats in the belfry grow restless and crazed.
Prepare your costume; get ready for sweets.
It’s almost time to shout, “Trick or treat!”

Shadow of the Mad King

Release Overview

Halloween has a long history in Tyria, and in times past was always marked by the spirit of Mad King Thorn cavorting among the people unleashing his own brand of insanity. However, it’s been over 250 years since he was last seen, and for most people he is merely a figure of folklore. Despite this, rumors persist among the populace that something wicked this way comes.

Shadow of the Mad King is the first major game release for Guild Wars 2 and will go live on October 22. This new game update will include a number of new features for all of our players to enjoy, new content to explore and see, and a week-long Halloween event.

Release Highlights

Halloween

Halloween is coming! Festivities are afoot, and Tyria will be transformed with decorations, new mini-games, new dynamic events, and more. Despite the celebrations there are those who dread the coming of Halloween and all that it may bring, for it is the time of year when barriers between the realms are weakest. Be prepared for an epic adventure in four acts starting October 22 and running until October 31.

Black Lion Trading Company

Never one to miss out on an opportunity, Evon Gnashblade has stocked all new items at the Black Lion Trading Company, including Halloween costumes and new transforms that will allow you to play Costume Brawl with fellow costumed players.

PvP Paid Tournaments

Paid tournaments will be available for competitive, five-person teams. These tournaments require tickets to enter and give better prizes than normal tournaments. Participating teams will earn qualifier points that will allow them to compete in future, larger tournaments. Tournament tickets can be earned from winning normal tournaments or purchased in the Gem Store.

Tyria Evolving

The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps.

Guild Wars 2 – Beta Feature: Mobile Two-Factor Authentication

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

As part of our ongoing commitment to security in Guild Wars 2, I am pleased to announce that we are making a mobile two-factor authentication solution available for beta testing, effective immediately.

Mobile two-factor authentication is an alternative means of securing your Guild Wars 2 account, and like e-mail authentication, is optional but strongly encouraged. Rather than sending you an e-mail when unauthorized login attempts occur, the game (or any of our online web sites) will prompt you for a six-digit number any time you log in to a Mobile Authenticator-protected account. Using a freely available app on three major smartphone platforms – iOS, Android, and Windows Phone – you can obtain the correct six-digit number unique to your account. These numbers change every 30 seconds and can only be used once; this ensures that without your mobile device, an attacker would not be able to compromise your Guild Wars 2 account.

Please be advised that this feature is currently in beta and we are actively working to get it up to our standards of quality. Use of this feature should be considered “at your own risk” until we have completed the beta phase. We have already identified two major improvements to the feature that we will complete before releasing this system for general use:

  • To increase security of your account, unlinking the Mobile Authenticator will require additional six-digit codes.
  • We will be introducing an option to “remember my current network” so that you will not have to authenticate every login from trusted environments.

Of course we will also be interested in your feedback on this feature, and will make sure to take into account your suggestions and opinions during final development.

Setting it Up:
Steps will be associated with either [Computer] or [Mobile] for where the step is taking place.

  1. [Computer] Navigate to https://account.guildwars2.com/account/security/totp and log in with your Guild Wars 2 credentials.
    - If you are redirected to the Security home page (https://account.guildwars2.com/account/security), be sure to add /totp back into the URL.
  2. [Computer] Identify the correct app for your mobile platform. Here are some suggestions:
    - Google Authenticator for iPhones and Android.
    - Windows Authenticator for Windows Phones.
  3. [Mobile] Download the application to your mobile device.
  4. [Computer] Click ‘Next’ on the Account Management page
  5. [Mobile] If your version of the Mobile Authenticator app has the ability to scan QR codes, use it to automatically scan the QR code displayed in Account Management [Computer] and skip to step #7.
  6. [Mobile] If your version of the Mobile Authenticator app does not have the ability scan QR codes, or that ability is not working with the QR code displayed, enter your credentials manually.
    - “Account Name” is the same as your Guild Wars Account Name.
    - “Key” is the secret code displayed in Account Management [Computer].
    - Select “Time Based” and not “Counter Based”
    - Select ‘Add’.
  7. [Computer] In the field below the QR code, enter the six-digit code now displayed from your Mobile Authenticator app [Mobile].
  8. Click ‘Next’.For more information, please refer to this Knowledge Base article – http://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9238

Thank you in advance for your support, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on this initiative.

Jonathan Sharp on the (Near) Future of Guild Wars 2 PvP

Here at ArenaNet we’re passionate about our game.  Like… sickly passionate. We want Guild Wars 2 to be good, and we want our players to enjoy it. Even if true perfection is an unreachable idea, we still want to strive for it, dammit!

Due to that desire to make the best game possible, we iterate. A lot. We take an idea, we build it, we test it, we make changes, we test it again, we add to it, we test some more, we take something away, we test again…. you get the idea.

So when we say we’ll show something “when it’s ready,” we really mean it. We don’t want to talk about it until we’re ready to show it, because it may change.  We may come up with a better idea, we may receive data that shows why a feature needs to be tweaked, or we may find a new solution in the course of testing that’s superior to our original idea.  That’s how game development works.  We don’t want to talk to you about things too soon, and then have those things change.  We don’t want to make empty promises to you.  We like to talk about things once they’re ready. Do we get everything perfect?  NO WAY. J  But it’s still a goal.

Structured Player vs. Player (sPvP) is a core feature in Guild Wars 2, and it’s quite massive.  The features we want to add to sPvP, to use an analogy, are like an iceberg…It’s more than we’ve been able to say so far.  And like all our other game types, we talk about sPvP features when they’re ready. We shipped the game with some key features, but a lot of features we wanted to show at release simply weren’t ready.  So now we’d like to start talking about some coming features that, until now, have been beneath the surface of the ocean on our metaphorical iceberg.

First, let’s talk about free automated tournaments, the new paid automated tournaments, and the differences between them.  After that we’ll talk about another new feature – custom arenas.

Free Automated Tournaments

Free automated tournaments are what you can play right now.  Many players (according to our numbers) have tried them out and seem to enjoy them. The free automated tournaments are meant to be friendly to new players, allowing people to randomly form teams and try to win some cool loot.  You can even play them solo, and get auto-matched with other players who don’t have a full team.  The idea is that they’re open to anyone, and should allow new players to meet other new players.

Once players have cut their teeth on the free automated tournaments and feel they’re ready, we expect them to step up to paid automated tournaments, where the competition will become more intense.

Here’s the reward breakdown for free automated tournaments:

1st place – 1 Gold Free Tournament Reward Chest, 300 glory, 300 rank points

2nd place – 1 Silver Free Tournament Reward Chest, 200 glory, 200 rank points

3rd place – 1 Copper Free Tournament Reward Chest, 100 glory, 100 rank points

4th place – 1 Copper Free Tournament Reward Chest, 100 glory, 100 rank points

5th place – No reward

6th place – No reward

7th place – No reward

8th place – No reward

As you can see, the top four teams will get glory (which they can spend in the Heart of the Mists on aesthetic rewards), rank points (which help you become more awesome as you rank up in sPvP) and different types of reward chests.

Paid Automated Tournaments

After players have become used to the game and learned the basics of sPvP, we figure they’ll be ready to test their skills by challenging the other experienced players out there in paid tournaments. These tournaments are similar to free automated tournaments, but with a couple key differences.

As the name implies, paid automated tournaments have an entry fee. You’ll need tickets to enter a paid tournament, which you can purchase in the gem store, find in reward chests from free tournaments, and receive when you rank up!

These tournaments reward ALL teams that play in them, and offer better rewards on average than free tournaments. Successful teams can earn excellent rewards from paid tournaments, but you’ve got to be good to finish in the top prize slots. We expect that more experienced PvP players will start to migrate to paid tournaments because the risk/reward is much higher than in the free automated tournaments.

There is also no matchmaking in the paid tournaments.  You have to come in with a premade team, which means the teams will ALL be organized teams – you won’t have premade groups fighting pick-up groups as you would in free paid tournaments.

Here’s the reward breakdown for paid automated tournaments:

1st place – 1 Gold Tournament Reward Chest, 360 glory, 360 rank points, 180 Gems

2nd place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 240 glory, 240 rank points, 120 Gems

3rd place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 120 glory, 120 rank points, 4 Tournament Tickets

4th place – 1 Silver Tournament Reward Chest, 120 glory, 120 rank points, 4 Tournament Tickets

5th place – 1 Copper Tournament Reward Chest

6th place – 1 Copper Tournament Reward Chest

7th place – 1 Copper Tournament Reward Chest

8th place – 1 Copper Tournament Reward Chest

Yes, you read that correctly: you can win gems in paid tournaments. If you are REALLY good at GW2 sPvP, you can actually make gems while playing in paid tournaments.  We think that’s pretty cool.  Those gems can be used on anything in the store, including more tournament tickets!

Custom arenas

Alright.  You’ve got your build.  You have your 5-person team, and you’re really good at working together.  You want a place to train.  You want a place to challenge other teams (and by challenge, I mean you wanna slap down those punks who were talking trash in that tournament you just played!!!).  You want the ability to play only the maps you want to play. You want a place where you and your friends can play without random people jumping in on the game.

What do you do?

You rent a custom arena.

Custom arenas are special PvP maps, rented by players, that will allow you to set up passwords, host scrims, and test strategies with your team.  This will allow you to challenge other teams, work on your builds in secret, and test your skills 1-on-1 with friends.  You can open the server up to everyone and set the map rotation you like best, or keep your arena password-protected so it serves as your private training ground.

We expect custom arenas will be a massive boon to the sPvP community. These rentable arenas will allow you to break up into teams, have a place to call your own, and allow you to organize your own private tournaments. You can customize the arena the way you want it (within established parameters), and you can select which maps to play on.

In a future blog post, we’ll talk about custom arenas in a lot of detail, and we’ll talk about all the settings available on them, as well as how you rent them!

Custom arenas are one of the key features that will help GW2 sPvP grow, but it’s not the only one.  Which leads us to…

Why These Features and Not Others?

We’re always listening to our player base, and taking their feedback and ideas into account. We watch the forums on multiple sites. We read the comments on Guild Wars 2 articles.  We take off our guild tags, sit in crowded maps in game, and eavesdrop on your conversations and unfettered opinions.  Who watches the watchers?  We do.

We hear a lot of the things you’ve asked for.  And the truth is, a lot of the features you want will be added in the future. Just because we don’t do everything you want, exactly when you want it, does not mean we aren’t listening. There’s a ton of stuff we want tell you about – just not yet. The features we’re adding now will go a long way in helping the sPvP community grow, but there’s still more to do. Again, we don’t like talking about features until we’re ready to show them.  We don’t like empty promises, and we know you don’t either. But, at the same time, we do want you to know that other features are coming!  We’re trying to strike that balance in this blog post.

So why are we adding paid tournaments and custom arenas first? Why not other features first?

Paid tournaments: We’ve seen on the forums that new players feel intimidated when fighting more experienced players, and experienced players want to meet up against each other more often when playing tournaments.  By having both free and paid automated tournaments, we help those two player bases find what they want more easily.  New players will spend more time in free tournaments until they’re ready to pay an entry fee for a tournament, and experienced players will likely gravitate toward paid tournaments, which will let them face one another more often.

Custom arenas: We knew that adding custom arenas was going to be a big deal for the community, so we prioritized it internally as a must-have feature.  There are other features we’ll be adding later that may be just as important as custom arenas, but we wanted to focus on getting players the ability to rent arenas before we added any other eSport features.

The Rest of the Iceberg

We’ll be adding a lot of things down the road, but we’re not going to talk about them yet.

We know leaderboards are important.

We know the ability to spectate matches is important.

We know larger tournaments are important.

We know streaming is important.

We listen to you and we hear what you’re asking for. We want to see eSports grow worldwide, and it’s a big part of how we think here at ArenaNet. We design sPvP maps with commentators in mind.  We think about streaming and how our game will do on streams when being learned by new players.  We watch eSport replays/streams in the office. We watch GW2 gamecasts on Youtube. We think about how people will organize tournaments (small and large) within custom arenas. We talk about eSport matches while we’re at lunch. We think about how to best get new players into the game, while also making sure professional players have a way to grow their fame. We think about the best way to show high-level matches to the masses. Really…we just think a lot about eSports. Not just for GW2, but we think about growing eSports around the world.

Paid tournaments and custom arenas will be coming online in the near future – paid tournaments will come first, followed by custom arenas.  And when we’re done with those, we’ll start working on other features to add. Guild Wars 2 competitive PvP is taking its first steps, teams are starting to organize, and some key features are about to start showing up.  But are we done working on it?

Hell no.

The way we see it, Guild Wars 2 sPvP may be shipped, but it’s far from finished.

-Jonathan “Chaplan” Sharp

Earning gold is one of my favourite things to do in MMOs. It doesn't seem to be that easy in Guild Wars 2, however, compared with a few other games I've played. With the abundance of armour and weapons dropping, hardly any of them are worth more than 1 copper above the merchant price. But if you want to earn gold in the game, make sure to not sell items for just one copper above merchant price!

Guild Wars 2 – Mystic Forge !

Last night I hit the jack pot using the Mystic Forge ! I finished the September monthly for breaking down items. (500 I had to break down )
So I said lets play around with Mystic Forge. I was able to take these chances on trying to get better items for Vampero because there is only one AH for all servers in Guild Wars 2.
Gold framers can’t drive the prices up on RARE items they are very cheap, most of the time only one copper over the price the npc would buy it for. So instead of selling the items on AH I took a chance used the Mystic Forge.

I got out of it was :

                                     Rare Shoulders
                                     Rare Sparegun
                                    Masterpiece Chest

I’m glad it did my friends !

Critically Acclaimed Online World Hits Number One in Top Ten Countries

NCsoft®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) and ArenaNet™, developer of the renowned Guild Warsfranchise, are proud to announce that Guild Wars 2 has reached number one in the official charts of ten countries across Europe.Officially released just ten days ago, Guild Wars 2 was eagerly anticipated by its legions of fans of the franchise, with over a million players logging in during the Headstart period. Media reactions have been stellar with the game receiving numerous top-mark reviews (10/10 Eurogamer.it, 5/5 FHM) and being hailed as; “easily the new benchmark for MMOs” (Empire), “redefines the MMORPG genre” (Eurogamer.es). Since its global launch the game has been flying off the shelves, with the innovative Collector’s Edition box proving extremely popular.

Guild Wars 2 now stands at number one in the official All Formats charts of the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium – all the major territories within Europe.

“Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling”, said Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. “It also impresses upon us the responsibility we have to our players and explains why we’ve taken steps recently to constrain sales of Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality of service. Of course, we hope to remedy this in the near future.”

Guild Wars 2 offers players

·         Dynamic Events: Guild Wars 2 is a living, breathing world where events occur naturally and in response to players’ actions. This system fosters cooperation between players—everyone who participates is rewarded, and players begin to naturally cooperate instead of compete.

·         Action-Oriented Combat: Guild Wars 2 is an action game at heart. Survival in combat is based on timing, skill and movement. Well-timed dodges or combo attacks are integral to any battle. Guild Wars 2 rethinks the outdated class restrictions of other games, giving players the tools and skills they need to play with friends regardless of their class.
·         Player vs. Player and World vs. World: Competitive multiplayer inGuild Wars 2 consists of two exciting modes PvP serves up intense small-unit combat that focuses on skill and strategy, not gear. WvW pits entire servers of players against each other in a two-week-long war on a series of huge maps.
